Woollen Knickers

Monday, July 25, 2011. When we were tossing out trip ideas for the weekend, I threw out the idea of Colonel Foster, and Dan seemed to gravitate to the idea of doing the summit traverse over the 5 main peaks of the mountain. Woollen Knickers: June 2010

http://woollenknickers.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html

Thursday, June 17, 2010. Most of the time our place seems like a run down shack, and our yard a bit of a garbage pile. At times though, it seems to have something of a rustic farmyard charm to it. All a matter of perspective. Wednesday, June 16, 2010. Looking up to the "Bumps" with the Saddle on left. Out to the Alberni Valley and Sproat Lake. The distant Mackenzie Range. Certainly one of the best kept secrets on the Island. Wednesday, June 9, 2010. After a failed trip to Elkhorn last fall. Subscribe to:...

Monday, October 5, 2009. Steamboat and the Prow. I had planned a club trip to Steamboat Mountain for a while. After getting a glimpse of the peak last week. I was pretty pysched about the trip. Steamboat Mountain is located near Ucluelet and Tofino and is one of the last mountains before you hit the open Pacific. The area has wonderful exposures of limestone with amazing karst formations. As a result, the area is pretty special amongst the caving community. Of course the area isn't easy to get into.

Woollen Knickers: February 2011

http://woollenknickers.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html

Sunday, February 27, 2011. Chilliwack Valley Mountains in Winter. I lucked out with a gorgeous day for flying around the Chilliwack Valley. I grew up hiking and climbing in the Chilliwack Valley, but haven't been there for a while. Forgot how rugged the mountains are around there. Was neat to see some of the classics in full winter condition. Mount Hozameen peaks. The main peak is pretty high on my 'to-do' list. Ross Lake and the North Cascades. Mount Baker with Shuksan on the left.

Snow Nerding: December 2010

http://snownerding.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 7 December 2010. North of Revelstoke they're plowing a logging road that gives you access to some superb terrain. There's not many people there, partly because you have to walk a little ways to get in there and partly because not too many people know about it. Did I mention that the cold temperature kept the snow really light and fluffy (and made my eyebrows frosty! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. Actual link to actual updates.

Snow Nerding: Scotland

http://snownerding.blogspot.com/2010/09/scotland.html

Wednesday, 1 September 2010. I've been extremely lucky. After battling headwinds up through Carlisle and into Glasgow, the weather has turned fine, the wind has dropped and the vistas have become spectacular. I just happened to go past one of my favourite breweries: Loch Fyne Ales. I might have bought one (or five! Which was dutifully dispatched. Mmmm, Avalanche Ale. 2 September 2010 at 20:25. Mmm beer, have one for me! Love reading about your adventure and I hope you enjoy every minute of it.

Snow Nerding: October 2010

http://snownerding.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html

Sunday, 31 October 2010. First Turns of the Season. Early season on McCrae Peak: slip-sliding up a sketchy logging road; slippery roots on the uptrack; flat light on the pocket glacier; first run rusty but the magic's still there; second time around cloud clears and the mountains open up; fun turns in creamy pow; scratchy descent back to the car. Keener people than us had got there first and the light was in and out, but great nonetheless. Watching out for rocks on the second pitch. There's a little bit ...

Curmudgeonly Bumbly: March 2009

http://curmudgeonlybumbly.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html

Wednesday, March 25, 2009. A couple of times. Over Christmas I was enthusiastically reporting the joys of the dawn patrol. I talked up the glories of the early morning starts, the sun rising over the mountains, and the fresh tracks before arriving at work at 10am. So you do this a lot? But I returned home to great roommates, who had the deep fryer bubbling with chicken drumsticks and fries. Hell yes! Monday, March 23, 2009. Last week saw me headed to Utah, for a ski vacation with the family. Let's ha...

Snow Nerding: August 2010

http://snownerding.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html

Sunday, 29 August 2010. Everyone knows that penny farthings were named in reference to the size of two British coins: the large front wheel being the penny, and the small back wheel being the farthing (worth a quarter of a penny). Not everyone knows that enthusiasts sporting waxed mustaches still ride these beasts round the British countryside. Here are two fine examples, outside the First House in Scotland in Gretna. The North of England. Mmmm, chicken pie. Check out the bedroom where I slept! No items ...

Shelley / Down Your Street. Maths / Out Of Town. Woollen Kits have received a lot of Beat Happening comparisons due to Thomas Hardisty’s hearty baritone voice, but with drummer Tom Ridgewell sharing vocal duties it’s becoming less and less apparent. That and the fact that they hit a helluva lot harder than Beat Happening ever did! The type of band you would’ve sent fan mail back in the day (but now clicking like on facebook will do). Pip Woolf, artist working with peat, wool, people and possibility. Growing woollen lines in 2011. The unseen and unspoken. July 14, 2015. I have walked up to Pen Trumau three times in the last month, yesterday being the third. I also had two conversations with different people in and around Brecon both of whom had been up to have a look recently. Both commented that they felt that there was little signs of growth on the scar. For me this is a miracle. Our work over the last 5 years is also testimony to e...
