For all who appreciate the beauty of words, flowers and homecooking. In a Vase on Monday: Catching the Light. February 20, 2017. For the first time this year I have a late winter/early spring flower from my garden to put in a vase for this Monday meme hosted by Cathy at Rambling in the Garden. Last week I managed to remove a lot of the winter debris from my rockery and flower beds, including Miscanthus leaves strewn across the garden (it never gets cut sown in time to prevent that happening! For some REA...

For all who appreciate the beauty of words, flowers and homecooking. In a vase on Monday: March Marvels. March 6, 2017. Another week has flown by, and some very mixed weather with it. Wind and sleet mid-week made me wonder if winter was back with a vengeance, but then an extremely mild 15 C on Saturday brought on a few early spring flowers. 🙂. As I join Cathy at Rambling in the Garden. With my weekly vase, Snowdrops are of course in the forefront…. Have a great week! In a Vase on Monday. In addition, I ...

Galanthus: October 2016

http://mygalanthusgarden.blogspot.com/2016_10_01_archive.html

Then snowdrops and my heart I’ll bring" (Christina Rossetti). Monday, 31 October 2016. Cusworth Hall, Doncaster - New Trees, Autumn Sunshine. The loveliest house in Doncaster and a park that is continually being improved since its prime restoration between 2003-7, Cusworth Hall. The first of the new trees, shedding its red leaves. Betula utilis ‘Jacquemontii’ has a fresh, chalky white and crisp peeling bark. I remember when this small copse was first planted. Trees grow up, or I get older. Thursday, 27 O...

Ipheion uniflorum 'Wisley Blue' is the first of the ipheions to flower this year. It has been awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit though it is more a pale lilac-purple than blue. Galanthus: First snowdrop of the year, and one summer visitor

http://mygalanthusgarden.blogspot.com/2016/12/first-snowdrop-of-year-and-one-summer.html

Then snowdrops and my heart I’ll bring" (Christina Rossetti). Saturday, 24 December 2016. First snowdrop of the year, and one summer visitor. 24 December 2016 at 21:01. Its quite remarkable to have a snowdrop and a Rudbeckia blooming at the same time I expect, but they both lend an appropriate measure of cheer to the holiday garden. Happy Christmas, Ian! Then snowdrops and my heart I’ll bring" (Christina Rossetti). Monday, 26 September 2016. Sorbus "Copper Kettle" and "Sorbus Eastern Promise", Harlow Carr Gardens, 25th September 2016. A shrub I covered last year (3rd October, 2015). Second up is another sorbus new to me, "Sorbus Eastern Promise", again a small, neat tree for the smaller garden. I did not take a close-up picture for some reason. The berries have a pink tinge to them. Labels: Homes and Gardens. Sunday, 25 September 2016. I did spot one mis...

Then snowdrops and my heart I’ll bring" (Christina Rossetti). Thursday, 31 December 2015. Galanthus "Mrs McNamara", the great survivor. Would have me believe the correct spelling is "Mrs Macnamara" as that is the family name. (See my post. Last year.) She is the classic snowdrop, early flowering and a weather and spade beater. Galanthus: Galanthus "Three Ships", Hellebore "Christmas Carol" and a Christmas morning surprise

Then snowdrops and my heart I’ll bring" (Christina Rossetti). Sunday, 25 December 2016. Galanthus "Three Ships", Hellebore "Christmas Carol" and a Christmas morning surprise. I hope you are enjoying a splendid Christmas Day. The weather forecaster as I type speaks of the potential for beating a record dating back almost 100 years with temperatures possibly beating the 15.6C of Killerton in Devon in 1920. Galanthus: Galanthus nivalis Sandersii

http://mygalanthusgarden.blogspot.com/2016/03/galanthus-nivalis-sandersii.html

Then snowdrops and my heart I’ll bring" (Christina Rossetti). Tuesday, 15 March 2016. Still beautiful on my display bench, Galanthus nivalis Sandersii is quite a sight and a rival for many over-priced yellow snowdrops I could mention on eBay at the moment. Not all versions with this name are as yellow. In the background is Eranthis hyemalis 'Guinea Gold', a deeper version of the winter aconite and one I have had for years but one that refuses to increase. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). These are just Mad words. I have made them grammar-less, orderless bunch of sentences but they aren't meaningless they sure aren't. :). Ever been on a beach? Watching the waves crash? You see the next one forming up. And you think every wave tries to get you. Sometimes you like it, sometimes not. But you keep looking at them - you can't stop. These waves, they're wondrous! Forget the science, think of the thrill, the menacing roar! Yet, they calm you down. You feel you belong there - with them. Knowing t...
