We all need clean water. And we need water in our rivers to support fish and other river life and so we can enjoy the recreational opportunities our rivers provide. The Coalition for Water Security is a group of 16 environmental organizations and their allies formed to address urgent water supply and use issues in Rhode Island, and to serve as the foundation for collaboration in solving environmental problems in the future. The Coalition grew out of discussions sponsored by the Rhode Island Foundation.

About The Rivers Council. The RI Rivers Council was created by statute. The primary duties of the Council are:. To implement and update a Rhode Island State Rivers Policy and Classification Plan. To advise state agencies and municipalities concerning programs and measures to protect and improve river and watershed quality. To designate watershed councils as bodies corporate and politic with specific powers, duties and responsibilities, including "standing" before local and state agencies and courts.
