Wheeler Peak and Lobo Peak. July 27, 2015. July 27, 2015. Wheeler Peak approach was hiked via the Williams Lake route and was complete with panoramic views and magnificent displays of wildflowers. Wheeler Peak is the highpoint of New Mexico at 13,161 and from Williams Lake the climb is bit over 3 miles with gain of 3731 feet. The antics of the marmot families and a viewing of a pair of big horn sheep stepped the rating of this hike to super exceptional! View from Lobo Peak Trail. Kings or Queens Crown?
