Wednesday, April 30, 2008. Auguste Rodin, The Monument to the Burghers of Calais, 1889 bronze 217 x 255 x 177 cm Hotel Biron, France. Rodin was a French artist who is noted for making realistic sculptures. He was denied entry into d'Ecole des Beaux-Arts. Instead he taught himself. His sculptures are very powerful. It is bronze, but is weathered to a green patina. There are many lines in the robes of the Burghers being led to their exicution. many shapes form the Burghers and the clothes.
