Chocolate-Kissed Angel Food Cake
http://commonplacekitchen.blogspot.com/2009/07/chocolate-kissed-angel-food-cake.html
Average kitchen, average skills, above-average eats. The grand thing about cooking is you can eat your mistakes. Tuesday, July 28, 2009. Chocolate-Kissed Angel Food Cake. When I was young, I don't remember my grandmother baking very often. This was the 80s, everyone was busy learning to microwave! Or at least she was. Don't get me wrong - there were still several grandmotherly treats issued: small candy bars from my grandfather's stash (Snickers! Caramel and butterscotch hard candies (Werther's! Slowly a...

20 years from now. Monday, January 25, 2010. On a positive note. These two hooligans came up to Quba and we had a pajama party. Where is my machete? So, Peace Corps issues us a variety of items to keep us safe and healthy. We get a fire extinguisher, smoke detector, water filter, sleeping bag, etc. However I was talking with one of my super-awesome fellow volunteers and her friend in Peace Corps (I forget now, but it started with an s. Suriname? I just don't know) was issued a machete! 3 Every month your...

20 years from now. Tuesday, May 26, 2009. As I was on the phone with Hannah last night I thought I heard a kitten so I opened up my door. Just as I did so a kitten came runnning into my room. Apparently the family upstairs aquired a new pet. I call her Bitey because she bites my toes. So now the list of sounds coming into my room includes:. People yelling in Azeri. People talking in Azeri. People whispering in Azeri. Chickens dying (being slaughtered). Cars coming in and out of the hospital. Because it i...

http://amyisapirate.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
20 years from now. Thursday, November 18, 2010. So, Peace Corps has decided to gives us a final blow by having all of the people from my group leave over the course of a month. A month of very emotional good byes. Since I am staying until the end I get to slowly say good bye to the people who have become family to me, then say goodbye to the people I will be leaving here. So, that sucks. Lucy and Danielle's last days in Azerbaijan. Also, the bar serves cigarette pie. Playing Catch-Up: Halloween Edition.

20 years from now. Monday, September 20, 2010. This dawned on me as being barely any time at all while I was trying to schedule my last visits to different regions and friends. Clock is ticking down. 20 years from now...: December 2010
http://amyisapirate.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html
20 years from now. Saturday, December 11, 2010. I got an R! Yeah, as of December 8th I went from PCV to RPCV. Take that Peace Corps! Slipped through the cracks again! The whole process of paperwork and red tape was awful, one giant cluster f*@k of running around an office. One staff member who shall remain nameless was particularly horrible. I felt like the last week of my service was harder than any other one week I can think of. But it's done, I'm finished, hooray hooray! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

20 years from now. Tuesday, July 20, 2010. 10 hours on the road, or, thank goodness I have an ipod. Yesterday I had the opportunity (like how I'm staying positive? Women, and uncomfortable seats. So here are some of my survival tips, they work pretty much year-round. 1 Sit by a window. You have better control of temperature and it makes me feel superior to be the "window master". Wednesday, July 14, 2010. Yes, I still have a blog. I've just been busy (sort of) but here is a re-cap of the last 3 months.

http://amyisapirate.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html
20 years from now. Wednesday, February 24, 2010. Oh yeah, I have a blog. Sometimes I forget to update this thing. For a long time. I think it is just because there isn't much that seems worth writing about anymore. There is, I'm full of entertaining and hilarious anecdotes. But they all seem normal to me now, so I forget that maybe a guy pouring burning hot coals across the street in a snow storm might be interesting to others. Those red things in the middle are coals. 20 years from now. Friday, June 19, 2009. Nothing goes as planned. That makes me feel better. Wednesday, June 17, 2009. That life doesn't work. You can't just assume any girl on a bus is interested in you, you have no right to be such an ass." unfortunately my language skills do not allow for such on the fly translations in my head and the previous sentence came out simply "That life doesn't work (in Azeri) Asshole (in English)". Sunday, June 14, 2009. And that means 2 things: heat and camps!

Average kitchen, average skills, above-average eats. The grand thing about cooking is you can eat your mistakes. Thursday, August 6, 2009. Anna's Simple Summer Gazpacho. Wow, talk about a food that doesn't photograph well. Well, I'm sure someone with more skills than I have could do a better job. But amateur me had a hard time with this one, so hopefully this picture here looks appetizing to you. Because the dish itself is really yummy. Anna's Simple Summer Gazpacho. 1 clove garlic, peeled.
