Coral Wild - A Safari Guides Diary: September 2014
http://coralwild.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
Sunday, September 7. My 100th posting, celebrating 900 days on safari. It's taken me a while to decide how to celebrate my 100th blog posting. First I thought to emulate a blog buddy of mine by publishing a selection from my photos that are numbered #100 (too restrictive and not many good ones). Then I tried selecting every 100th of all the ones I've taken whilst on safari (way too many! 100th day on safari (Spring 2008). It was springtime and the Common Sugar bush was in full flower along the mountains.

Coral Wild - A Safari Guides Diary: April 2015
http://coralwild.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Saturday, April 18. When the buffalo chased off the lion pride. It's early on a late-summer morning, and we're taking a quick drive north of Satara before turning south for Skukuza. Some 10 k's from camp we find a huge buffalo herd crossing the road, extending for 100's of meters on both sides. There are many calves gamboling around and we pause to enjoy the show. Buffalo bulls fighting (from my photo archives). Turning tail the lions disappear into bushes next to the road side. Having lost direct sight ...

Coral Wild - A Safari Guides Diary: August 2014
http://coralwild.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
Wednesday, August 20. So often in the bush it is really difficult to get that "perfect" picture of an animal. So much so that one of my more frequent quips is "one would think that the animal is more interested in eating/sleeping/hiding than posing for us tourists! Then one has a sequence of days where every animal appears to be in just the right place for us to try and get that ideal capture. Not only for my clients, but also for me! I don't have the best camera equipment for birds, but these three did ...

Thursday, April 17. An Autumn Safari Photo Update. Elephant on the Sabie River. April is autumn in Kruger National Park, and a time of unpredictable weather, lush green and gold bush, and variable wildlife sightings. We were definitely more lucky than many however and had some really amazing encounters over the days we spent in Kruger. On one particular day (thanks Jaime and Anthony! Leopard sightings with 4 different leopards! A young Kudu antelope. Lionesses getting ready to hunt. Links to this post.

Coral Wild - A Safari Guides Diary: June 2014
http://coralwild.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
Sunday, June 29. Aaaahhh. the birds! Western Australia's iconic Black Swan ( Cygnus atratus. I must warn you upfront that I didn't visit Australia for the wildlife. Considering I made no plans whatsoever to visit wildlife sanctuaries (apart from Ningaloo Reef) it's amazing what I did see! On the mammal front I spotted one koala, a couple of possums (in and near Brisbane), and saw kangaroos on only 3 different occasions whilst travelling through 3,500 kms of Western Australia. At Yanchep National Park.

Coral Wild - A Safari Guides Diary: October 2014
http://coralwild.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Tuesday, October 7. Those elusive animals of Kruger National Park. An uncommon sighting, Common Reedbuck in a typical pose. If you want to know what's really hard to find in Kruger National Park you just need to watch out for a guides over-the-top response to an animal (usually of a smaller size) sighting. So going back to my opening paragraph - look out for the guides reaction. Tsessebe near Phabeni Gate. Tsessebe are rare in Kruger, although on a safari back in 2008, Allison, Simon and Lu didn't believ...

Friday, September 27. Mana Pools, paradise revisited. After a too long a gap of 21 years, I was fortunate enough to revisit Mana Pools Zimbabwe, earlier this month. The most special part of the reserve for me, is the river and flood plains. I'm not going to try and describe in any more words what's so special about this small piece of Africa, but let my photos speak for themselves. By 1992 I had a camping fridge but couldn't fit it into my little Mazda - so again cold drinks only as long as our ice laste...

Coral Wild - A Safari Guides Diary: January 2014
http://coralwild.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html
Wednesday, January 22. A not so quiet January. Januaries generally tend to be a little quieter on the safari front - post holiday season; mid sticky summer; empty wallets; new year resolutions; I'm sure you will have one reason or another. However when a safari does happen, Kruger can be far from quiet with great animal sightings. I'm back in Kruger tomorrow, for the first time this month and these photos from a January 4 years ago are winding me up in anticipation! Sunrise over the Olifants River.
