Plans and Promises | Deacon Rick

My personal blog in Lakeland Florida. Listening For His Voice. All around →. July 2, 2015. For some time I have wondered how to answer the people who ask me, “How are you? There is so much that is still broken and not working. It is tedious to review. Many times, and for fun, I have gone with the obvious. “I had a stroke…” I’ll reply. Most people get it and play along. Only once did someone not get the joke, and that was a nurse at the hospital. Today one of the devotionals we read cited this verse:.

Moments | Deacon Rick

My personal blog in Lakeland Florida. Been there →. August 15, 2015. Friday the therapist had me walk around the gym three times, the third time with a cane in hand. He always kept one or two hands on my back, gripping the belt around my chest. My slowest pace was with the cane! His explanation was the cane was something extra for my brain to have to think about. What a complicated piece of wiring it is under our skulls. I got tired then and get tired now remembering it. Another therapist who had read.

My personal blog in Lakeland Florida. Newer posts →. All… together 2.0. October 15, 2016. A few days ago I wrote about a new understanding I’d had into Paul’s declaration that all things work together for good. Last week Melanie and I were listening to Joel Osteen. Talk about trouble being one way God transports us to where He wants us to be. One of his illustrations was the life of Joseph, the story that wraps up the. It is all those things,. As Joel points out in his sermon, if any of the links along t...

All around | Deacon Rick

My personal blog in Lakeland Florida. Night fall →. July 19, 2015. I listened as a friend unloaded their frustrations with the medical care being received by one of his children. I found myself wondering if one reason the Lord was allowing the unfortunate situation was so that my friend would be drawn to a special place of access where he could help his own child and others facing similar problems. 8221; And I prayed. Does that sound morbid? I am a retired Deacon in Lakeland Florida. This entry was poste...

God’s purpose | Deacon Rick

https://deaconrick.wordpress.com/2015/07/30/gods-purpose

My personal blog in Lakeland Florida. Reading what I wrote →. July 30, 2015. We have the idea that God is leading us toward a particular end or a desired goal, but He is not… What we see as only the process of reaching a particular end, God sees as the goal itself. What is my vision of God’s purpose for me? After reading this sobering comment by Mr. Chambers, I went on during the week to hear summaries of a couple of Christian conversions. I’m trying, Lord. I am a retired Deacon in Lakeland Florida.

A few things | Two Feet Off the Asphalt

https://twofeetofftheasphalt.wordpress.com/2015/06/06/a-few-things

Two Feet Off the Asphalt. Life and cycling in the Ozarks. June 6, 2015. I know a lot of us have had nails or some type of spike through our tires. I even save mine as some sort of trophy, “Look at what I survived! 8221; But this last week I had a close call and was not aware of it until one of the fellows I work with called it to my attention. A nail through the inside edge of my right walking shoe. As I said, I did not know it had happened. The culprit now shares space with my other close calls. This en...

Two Feet Off the Asphalt. Life and cycling in the Ozarks. Newer posts →. May 15, 2015. This has been Bike To Work Week here in Springfield. Some of us have tried to meet each morning to view the sunrise and afterward visit a local coffeehouse before heading on to work. My workday begins at 0700 and the coffeehouse visit is not feasable. But this morning we did get a sunrise after a few days of clouds. We met at the top of an urban parking garage. May 11, 2015. Through the winter, they met at coffee shops...

Two Feet Off the Asphalt. Life and cycling in the Ozarks. Taxes at work →. May 2, 2015. The present job requires a Monday through Friday, 0700-1530 schedule. Weekends are off although I have on occasion had need to go in on a Saturday. I helped Jan with a Garden Plant Sale and afterward we were treated to a visit from our friends, Sam and Linda. With my friend Sam. With the threat of frost now past, the garden is in full swing. View all posts by rlhoover →. This entry was posted in Cycling. Thank you and...

Two Feet Off the Asphalt. Life and cycling in the Ozarks. A few things →. May 25, 2015. Jan and I finished our morning chores and headed out for lunch and a ride ’bout town. Prior to checking on a friend’s home I became thankful I was wearing cycling gloves as I fell over at an intersection. I could not get my foot out of the toe clip. With this being Memorial Day weekend, most businesses are closed and traffic is sparse. An empty campus with the Spring Term now ended. View all posts by rlhoover →. You a...

Two Feet Off the Asphalt. Life and cycling in the Ozarks. Finally a sunrise →. May 11, 2015. We have a group here in Springfield that meets every other week on a Wednesday morning to watch the sunrise and drink coffee. Afterwards, we head off to our respective jobs. It was decided to meet each day this week as the city is having a Bike To Work Week in an effort to encourage healthy lifestyles. We met on a 100 year old pedestrian bridge that goes over the railroad yard. View all posts by rlhoover →. May 1...

65 and counting | Melanie Hoover

I SING BECAUSE… →. August 10, 2015. How often do we pray? How consistent are our prayers? Do we actually do more than call a name before the Lord? I have to ask myself these questions daily. Our prayer list has more than 65 names on it right now. If someone passes away or gets healed our list shortens, but it doesn’t happen often. Some have been suffering for years. What is the battle being fought in the heavenlies preventing their answer? Whom in heaven or earth but thee? You hold me by my right hand.

Girl Meets Sherlock: A Holmesian Blog. Amy Thomas Brings You All Things Holmes. Skip to primary content. Being Watson: Appreciating the Genius of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. June 22, 2015. This past Saturday, I finished writing a story I’ve been working on for several weeks, a Sherlock Holmes short story that will become part of an anthology to be published later this year. The challenge of the project is that the stories have to be completely traditional mysteries in Watson’s voice. I’m still wiping t...

Forgettaboutit

Sunday, May 10, 2009. Well, its been a long time since I blogged because I got hung up on Facebook. That was fun for a while but I must say it has gotten pretty boring. I really don't need to know when someone is blowing their nose or scratching their butt. Blogging is not much more fun but it can be more creative. So I am going to try to get better about blogging. Saturday, October 4, 2008. I got no hair! And stop making her cry with all that Philly stuff. I must go now to find out if I am any better at...

Wednesday, June 16, 2010. Our time is coming to an end. As many of you know, Rick and I have been working with Father Beiting Appalachian Mission Center since November. After much prayer and thought, more prayer and discussion, and then more prayer, we have decided we will be leaving FBAMC a little early, at the end of June. There have been many changes during our time here; some easy and some very difficult. Wednesday, April 28, 2010. Http:/ www.YouTube.com/watch popup? We sure miss everyone! The Cathol...

Deacon Roger's Homilies

Thursday, May 28, 2009. May 31, 2009: Pentecost Sunday (B) John 20:19-23. Tuesday night I was driving home looking for the basketball score on the radio and I ran across a guy on talk radio by the name of Dave Ramsey. I had never heard of him, I don’t know if many of you have or not? I think he is right on track, in that if the country as a whole had listened more to parents and grandparents most would be in better financial shape. Today, of course, is the celebration of Pentecost Sunday. The day Jes...
