A Bit of History. In the early decades of the 19th century there was not a large population of Maori in the Kaipara area, because it was very much a no-mans land bordering the Ngapuhi Iwi in the north and Ngati Whatua Iwi around Auckland. As they often went to war they kept a distance between themselves consisting of the disputed territory. The last major battle between these two groups was as late as 1828. A Railway Heritage Experience. The Helensville Railway Station is well worth a stop when visiting Helensville. The Ginger Crunch Cafe, River Cottage Antiques, are all in the station building. Is open Wednesday to Sunday from 8am to 3pm. Is open Wednesday to Sunday from 10am to 3pm. Closed Monday, Tuesday. 1881 steam locomotive D170 loaned from Museum of Transport and Technology in Auckland is also on static display at the station. You can enjoy a break at the Helensville Railway Station during your visit.

Helensville Railway Station Precinct. Welcome to the home of Helensville's Historic Railway Station. OUR RAILWAY MUSEUM IS OPEN. The museum is open to the public. Opening hours are 11am to 3pm Saturday and Sunday. Our model will be operating and our tablet (train control) machines demonstrated. Presently the railway station building (which dates back to 1881), houses tenants compromising a Café, Antiques store and Art Gallery. The new building is located at the southern end of our property.
