People and Place module notes:. Assignment two, was a journey that I wouldn’t want to make again! On photographers and photography.

Sunday, 22 July 2012. On Reading by Andre Kertesz. The word that came to my mind, as I looked through the photographs in this wonderful little book, kindly loaned to me by Catherine Banks, a fellow student, was transformative, so I was interested to find that in the short introduction that I read, after I had looked and studied the three score and more reproduction photographs, the word “transformative” as a key descriptor in the analysis provided. Sunday, 7 October 2012. End of the module notes. People and Place module notes:. The first assignment I found the easiest. Mark was willing and well versed – he has sat many times before. The idea of a continuing portrait is an intriguing idea, though whether a close member of the family is a good idea I’m not sure. There are pro’s and cons and the discussion of which is not for the here and now. Assignment two, was a journey that I wouldn’t want to make again! On photographers and photography. Eryl died...

Monday, 17 September 2012. Feedback on Assignment five. I'm not sure I could be more pleased. My tutor seems very happy with the work, no suggestions about how it might be improved, the video seemed to work and more importantly for me, the message that I wanted to convey seems to have been delivered and understood. I am being encouraged to get the work ready for assessment and I want to do so. Thursday, 13 September 2012. Assignment Five - Your own brief. I have written about this project here. To a phot...

Thursday, 31 May 2012. Cape Town Opera at the Sheldonian. The artwork for the souvenir programme has now been received and I'm very pleased with how my photographs have been reproduced and the recognition they have afforded me (inc. p16). I have been invited to attend and take photographs at the rehearsal on the afternoon on the 11th June and then attend (with my wife) as VIP guests for the concert - which looks fantastic. Looking forward to it immensely. Monday, 28 May 2012. The entrance, looking left t...

Friday, 30 December 2011. Best of a set. A couple of months ago I was asked to produce a set of photographs for a friends web-site www.bexercise.co.uk . Rebecca (Bec's - hence Bex) is a personal trainer and has had her web-site for a year or so but wanted to put some pictures on it - mindful of the potential issues with copying images from the internet I agreed to take some pictures of her and provide her with the images she needed. From which (and a few more edited down) came the following downselect:.

Monday, 30 April 2012. The social network site Flickr has over 2 million entries under the search term "self portrait", under the term "me" it has 84 million. Facebook has approaching 1 billion users - all are encouraged to put a image of themselves as part of their signature. The first photograph that Woodman is purported to have taken is this. Glass makes a nice definition of space because it delineates a form while revealing what is inside it is also a cold and somewhat harsh material. I want to d...

People & Place: Fun with postcards
http://johnumney.blogspot.com/2012/04/fun-with-postcards.html
Tuesday, 24 April 2012. John Egerton Christmas Piper 1903 - 1992 was a painter, printmaker who lived relatively local and, in collaboration with Patrick Reyntiens created stained glass windows, the most famous of which is probably for the new Coventry Cathedral. This partnership was also responsible for the window titled "St Martin sharing his cloak" 1973 which is at the north end of Sandford St Martin Church in North Oxon. 25 April 2012 at 05:07. Glad you got it sorted though! 25 April 2012 at 07:43.
