YOU ARE EXCUSED: January 2011

Sunday, January 30, 2011. Are We Having Fun Yet? I looked at Coach's nose this morning and saw pink and red marks on it. My first thought was, "OH NO - not another unpronounceable disease! It turns out it's teeth marks. Careful investigation shows that these teeth marks match Jazz's teeth exactly! The flip side of this ridiculous mess seems to be genuine pack solidarity. Jazz spends the night wherever he wants to and Coach sleeps in his crate. If Coach wants to get up before I do, (did I say if? Another ...

Exercise Finished: June 2014

Tuesday, June 24, 2014. The tapestry of life with dogs. It’s been 7 years and 4 months since Phoenix arrived in my life. Seven years and 4 months since I’ve had a little baby creature in the house. Dogs have always been such an integral part of my life that I tend to remember events through the years by connecting them to what my dogs were doing at the time. Wedding planning in the spring of 1991? The straight-line windstorm that decimated our farm in the summer of 1998? The ice storm of February 2007?

Tuesday, January 28, 2014. Gear bag review, Part II. For the second in my series on gear bags, I’ll be reviewing the women’s oil cloth business tote from Duluth Trading Company (www.duluthtrading.com). This is currently my go-to gear bag, although I’ve had to modify it slightly with a pair of scissors. More on that later. This picture is supposed to be bigger. But it's not. So get a magnifying glass. Or go to the website. What a surprise.). My dirt-colored dog inspecting my dirt-colored bag. Things I lov...

Sunday, August 21, 2011. Life After Knee Surgery. Jazz is still improving, so this is a progress report, not final. We have entered NADAC agility trials and Jazz finished his novice tunnelers and open standard titles since the middle of May. DoG bless NADAC! Those of you with dogs who are currently in rehab or living "life after" any kind of surgery - hang in there. It is so rewarding to see your dog gain confidence and strength. Good luck. YOU ARE EXCUSED: April 2010
http://youareexcused.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html
Friday, April 30, 2010. I always enter one trial during tax season. My own club's trial is held early in April and it is the very worst time for me to be entering a trial, but it is my own club and I always enter. This year I entered Jazz in novice obedience - with high hopes - and Coach in Rally novice - with no hope. Then again - who asked him to pull a sled? This was at least as bad as any time we have entered the obedience ring. Rats! He was a hoot in the ring. He nearly knocked the easel down on...

Wednesday, November 23, 2011. I just wanted to wish everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving. I am very thankful for my health and the health of those I love. I am grateful that my sisters are both in this world and that they love me as much as I love them. I am grateful for my parents and my daughter. I am thankful that my dogs are well and here with me. I live a very lucky life and I am thankful for it. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). The Other End of the Leash. Less is More (When It Comes to Training).

Sunday, July 31, 2011. Fun At The Fair! I think I must have asked my sister a dozen times what date the fair was this year. You see, last year I MISSED it as I'd entered an agility trial! Kids grow up fast enough without missing the fair! They live in Southern Iowa, so, I attended the Des Moines County Fair on Friday. Yes, the Des Moines County Fair is in Burlington, not anywhere close to Des Moines! Des Moines is actually Polk County, sometimes you're better off NOT asking why. The smell of funnel cakes?

Friday, February 5, 2010. I am afraid Vinnie is going to get his heart broken! Both classes have been essentially working on the same thing, just in different ways. Handler focus/attention, recalls, some heeling (that he really seems to enjoy! I took this shot last weekend (after grooming him, of course! February 5, 2010 at 6:20 PM. February 9, 2010 at 10:33 AM. Saturday, June 16, 2012. I spotted a couple Japanese Beetles in my garden yesterday. Not to worry, I squashed them. Like that was really going to help! Speaking of 'Squash', spotted a cluster of eggs under. A few of the pumpkin leaves. Picked those off too. Then this afternoon, I walked back out to the garden. They had invaded my asparagus! They were NOT there this morning! A few too many to pick off one at a time. So, as much as I hated to.I sprayed them. If I wouldn't have spotted them, they would.
