The view from the indian ocean. The Kerns in Mozambique. Monday, March 29, 2010. The other day Wesley and I took a walk to go visit Ana- the girl who works for us- where she lives on the outskirts of town in the " bairo. We rode the " chapa. Public transportation) for the first 30 minutes or so and then walked another 45 minutes on a less accessible road. They don't have electricity or running water set up. But she had a large cement tank to catch run-off rain water from the roof during the wet season.

The view from the indian ocean. The Kerns in Mozambique. Monday, June 21, 2010. My daughter's strange connection to my suitcase. So in April we left Mozambique and the Indian Ocean, and began our travels back to America. For Stefan and I it has been coming "home" in many ways. But the reality is that for our children it was leaving "home" and everything with which they were familiar. And nearly5), all three of my children's feelings of security and safety and peace is much more dependent on the extent th...

The view from the indian ocean. The Kerns in Mozambique. Thursday, February 16, 2012. We have been blessed to finally find a house helper (or "empregada" as they are called here) to work with us! As we have tried to work through these issues the past four years of living here, we are acutely aware of the importance of finding someone who is not only going to be a help to our family but someone that we can invest in and bless in ways other than simply materialistically. 4 A female. Although it is more...

the view from the indian ocean: trip to the ocean

http://www.theviewfromtheindianocean.blogspot.com/2012/06/trip-to-ocean.html

The view from the indian ocean. The Kerns in Mozambique. Thursday, June 28, 2012. Trip to the ocean. This past week we packed up our vehicle and trailer to head out on a four-day trip to the coast. The kids have been asking to got to the beach since we first returned to Mozambique six months ago as their memories of Mozambique had most definitely included sand and water. Alex said her goodbyes to her very good friend, Jacinta. And this is not the beach. This is us broken down on the side of the road.

http://stone77.blogspot.com/2010/08/helloagain.html

Wednesday, August 04, 2010. Here are some recent pictures of the kiddos. Will, Lauren, and Joe with the Coke Polar Bear - well, he's the Diet Coke Polar Bear in our house. We went to Atlanta to celebrate Will's 6th birthday. While we were there, we went to the "Diet" Coke Museum for Father's Day. We met up with Will's buddy Nathan in Atlanta. Those boys will be friends forever! Lauren loved the aquarium. Well, Lauren loves just about everything. Another happy picture of Lauren. She is always happy!

the stones: Basketball and Gymnastics

http://stone77.blogspot.com/2009/12/basketball-and-gymnastics.html

Saturday, December 19, 2009. Will has started playing basketball out at Southland. He's on a team of 10 Kindergartners. It's really nice to not have older kids on the same team) and it's totally just for fun! Right now they're just doing practices on Saturday, but starting in January he'll have a half hour practice and a half hour game on Saturdays. After the game they have devotionals and snack. It's such a great ministry and we're just loving it! Posted by Joe Stone. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

the stones: Kindergarten

http://stone77.blogspot.com/2009/08/kindergarten.html

Thursday, August 13, 2009. Kindergarten. Wow. I can hardly believe that our little boy is old enough to be going to school all day. Yes, Joe and I believe that all day Kindergarten is a little long, but we know that Will is ready for it. He was so excited to go to school yesterday, and yes, he was a little scared, too. But, honestly. God really takes care of him! All ready to go to school - and yes, it's dark out! Oh that look. Is my mommy really going to leave me here? No tears (from either of us)!

http://stone77.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html

Friday, March 20, 2009. And he'll draw objects, too. He LOVES to go to school and he's made some excellent friends this year. His teachers are wonderful and they've really worked hard on developing his weaker areas. It's so exciting to have no more diapers in the house (except for bedtime) and I feel like I'm moving toward easier days. We're really looking forward to this summer! We're going to get a pool pass and spend as many days at the pool as possible! Posted by Joe Stone. Tuesday, March 03, 2009.

the stones: Grandpa and Grandma

http://stone77.blogspot.com/2009/06/grandpa-and-grandma.html

Monday, June 01, 2009. My parents were able to come up and spend a week with us a couple of weeks ago. We had a great time with Grandpa and Grandma! The kids LOVE having their grandparents here and they always have so much fun with them. Since my parents are retired, they are able to come up a little more often. Here are some pictures from their visit. Milkshakes at Red Robin with Grandpa. There's a picture almost exactly like this with Bradley and Grandpa, too. There It was hilarious! Posted by Joe Stone.

the stones: Flowers

http://stone77.blogspot.com/2009/06/flowers.html

Monday, June 01, 2009. I wanted the kids to have their own flower pots this year so that they could learn responsibility and they could also learn a little more about plants. They got to pick out their own flower pots and their own flowers. They of course picked out the same things (Lauren likes to do what Will does.), but maybe we'll have a little more variety next year! Will planting his flowers. Lauren playing in her dirt. Planting with Grandma and Mommy. Water, water, water. Posted by Joe Stone.

http://stone77.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html

Monday, May 25, 2009. Will scored his first goal last Saturday. He was so excited (as you can see in this picture! He got the ball just before mid field and he "kicked and ran" down the field while everyone was following him. He shot and he scored! The great thing is that Nonnie, Grandpa, and Grandma were all there to see his first goal. Unfortunately Joe had drill that weekend and I was in the port-a-potty with Lauren. Although I wasn't able to watch the goal, I was able to hear all the cheering!

the stones: Graduation

http://stone77.blogspot.com/2009/06/graduation.html

Monday, June 01, 2009. Will graduated from preschool on Friday. He is such a big boy and we are so proud of him. He got excellent marks on his report card and he progressed in his fine motor skills! We're all ready for Kindergarten in the fall - after a nice and relaxing summer! All dressed up and ready to go! Walking down the aisle with Avery (his good buddy) while all the mommies and daddies take pictures! Waiting to start a song. Will receiving his certificate. Posted by Joe Stone. Where in the World.

The View From The Ground

The View From The Ground. Notes and thoughts on the world at large, from the point of view of those of us at ground level. The Day After 10 Years. As I write this, I am sitting in my kitchen, listening to the usual sounds of a house full of children: a laugh here, a whine there, a grunt from the 13-soon-to-be-14 year old. It is the 12th of September, 2011. 10 years and one day after the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Yet, I find myself wanting to. I just don't want to repea...

A little over two years ago I always knew that the time would come when I could no longer devote as much time to the blog as I would like – one other thing that I was certain of was that I never wanted to walk away from or give up on this project entirely. It is with these two thoughts in mind that I write this post today.

And everywhere down the centuries of the snow-white world. Came people singing, dancing,. To drive the dark away. They lighted candles in the winter trees;. They hung their homes with evergreen;. They burned beseeching fires all night long. To keep the year alive. And when the new year’s sunshine blazed awake. They shouted, revelling.

The View from the Island

The View from the Island. Tuesday, March 4, 2008. Well we're up and running, and this is my new blog. Actually, it's a continuation of my former blog of the same name at Townhall.com, at a new location. There are those who will ask: "What does that mean, The View from the Island? Well, I live in beautiful Southern California, in the Santa Clarita Valley (SCV) in Los Angeles County, a bastion of conservatism surrounded by a sea of liberalism, hence the "Island" metaphor. In the meantime, welcome.

The View from the Island

The View from the Island. The critics use terms such as demagogic ideologue with no specific policy proposals , while the cheerleaders say things like savior of the country and America’s best hope . Yes, that’s right. As painful as it is to write, and maybe even more painful to read, I’ve come to the conclusion that all the rabid hysteria in support of Donald Trump reminds me of nothing so much as the same kind of rabid hysterical support Clinton gets from those on the Left. Trump is the Right’s Hillary.
